Stop Guessing—Start Gaining Clarity on Your Markdown Strategy
In specialty retail, every markdown, price override, and discount impacts your margins—and without the right tools, it’s easy to lose sight of where and why those adjustments are happening. That’s where Counterpoint comes in.
To help you stay in control of your pricing strategy, Counterpoint offers two powerful reports that will give you insight into price exceptions and reductions off the retail price.
Price Exceptions History Report
This report captures all posted tickets where an item's calculated selling price was manually changed—either through a price override or when a clerk was prompted to enter a price. It gives you the flexibility to filter by date range, item, category, sub-category, location, drawer, or vendor, and includes totals by store or report level. If you’re tracking override reasons, those are included too—making it easier to spot trends and ensure pricing decisions align with store policy. You’ll see both the original price and the adjusted price, along with the difference shown by amount and percentage.

Note: For unposted tickets, see: Home > Point of Sale > Reports > Price Exceptions Report.
Price Reductions Report
This report focuses on the total amount your standard retail prices have been reduced. It includes all types of reductions—temporary markdowns from price rules, manual price overrides, discounts, and adjustments from alternate units or kit component pricing. You can group the data by item category or sub-category, or drill all the way down to individual items to see exactly where reductions are occurring.

Together, these reports give you a clearer picture of how pricing changes are impacting your business—so you can take action with confidence and protect your bottom line.
